I know you and I have discussed facebook ads, among other things already, and I do like what you have done with your facebook posts every now and then, but how many people do you think see those updates, that don't already actively visit this site (holy, run on sentence batman)? If you really want to grow the site, and are willing to put in some time (other that actually working on the site itself, which is great by the way) I think getting on twitter would definitely be to your (our) advantage.

My thinking is this: @PackersHome could follow everyone involving the Packers on twitter. Players, Coaches, Writers for the local newspaper, Packers Blogs, the "competing" Packers forums around, even noname packers fans. What would this accomplish? First, if a regular fan sees @PackersHome on their list of followers they are most likely going to follow back. That gets your name out there on a smaller level. Spending some time everyday, retweeting quotes from articles, or things the people, writers, or players are saying about the Packers. Retweeting things of common interest will get others to retweet the same things. That gets the PackersHome name out there on a much larger scale, and if your twitter profile is set up correctly, it will bring the site some new unique hits. If we're lucky, 5% of those new hits will result in new active members.
I could go much more in depth with this but I am 1) out of time and 2) I think that is good base to start with that you and the other could build some more on to.

The above would all be done without spending a dime, and without splattering the site with ads. All that would be needed would be a shift in your focus - from focusing on improving the site itself, to focusing on marketing the site for a while.

I would be more than willing to do the whole twitter thing for you, because I would love to see this site grow. But, I fully understand and expect that you would want to do that yourself, or at least have a hard time trusting someone else to represent your site in a matter in which you would approve.

If this should have been it's own thread, go ahead and separate it.

According to the Facebook stats, the PackersHome.com page has reached 90,221 unique people, which includes friends of fans. I don't know if that's good or not because I don't know how to quantify it.

We have @PackersHome which when a facebook status is posted, it gets replicated to Twitter. However, not too many posts on the PackersHome twitter. But those who want to, can posted on the facebook PackersHome timeline.

My goal is for ~400 posts per day. Currently, we're topping out around ~250 when the Packers lose a game. When I was pumping out late '09 about 'free stream' we were hitting over 500 on a good basis.

If you want to take the Twitter responsibility, I am open to this if you are.

Twitter is a good idea for establishing an online presence. When there's breaking Packers news, a retweet from the account can easily reach thousands and thousands of people. While a retweet isn't really contributing that much to Twitter, that's not the goal. If one person checks out the PackersHome twitter feed and the website as a result, we've accomplished something.

That being said, I know next to jack shit about twitter. Hopefully I didn't make an ass out of myself [grin1]

Giving the reigns of something PackersHome is kind of difficult for me, so please allow me a little time to figure this out. This is NOT a slight on you or anything of the sort. It's me, I have to pry my fingers off something and let it slide it to someone else. Hope you understand.

  • It might be smart not to follow regular fans just yet. Keeping the PH feed clear of clutter for a while will make it much easier to spot the quality, Packers relevant tweets, thus giving PH an easier time finding a quality product to share with PH's followers.
  • When retweeting writers, or taking quotes from articles, make sure PH is doing it in a way as to not be stealing the credit from them, and also not stealing their hits. Do it in a way as to share the info with PH's followers and also make them want to visit the site.
  • When retweeting players PH should keep it to a minimum of: players reactions after games, quotes to the media (or on their twitter), entertaining player interactions.
  • Interact with PH's followers. Give them a reason to interact with PH, not to ignore PH. Maybe ask them to send PH a photo from their trip to lambeau, or a time they met a player, or pictures they took from training camp. Retweet the best responses to get it out to a larger audience.
  • Anytime there is a good topic of discussion on PH, get a link out there. Encourage our followers to join in on the discussion.
  • Find any good stats involving GB, or their opponent of the week, season long stats for or against GB? Share it on twitter.
  • See any rival players talking shit about the Packers? Retweet it. Get that blood flowing, create a thread here on the forum about it so PH can link it to it's followers and get them responding on here instead of twitter or FB.

I am looking for feedback on everything I have posted here, or in PM to you. Trying to get a set of guidelines/ideas for when I start tweeting. I don't want to overstep anything. I have added to the list of people PH is following, but do not want to start tweeting before I have a good idea of what you are looking for.

Feel free to unfollow anyone I followed. I trust your judgment 100% on this and am going to do my best to keep my hands off.

One thing though when it comes to bringing stuff from facebook over to twitter. I was looking back at your tweet history and did notice that you were doing a lot of "share this or like this" on twitter, but you can't share or like anything on twitter, so it didn't really work out. That's basically the only thing I noticed that shouldn't be carried over.
